A few years ago, a retired gentleman was in a single car accident that left him in a coma. He lived alone and had no family in the local area. Since he could not communicate, no one knew he had 3 beautiful dogs alone in his house. After a few days his friends began to investigate, since they could not reach him. Locating him in the hospital, they went to his home. Gaining entrance to the house, they removed his dogs, cleaned up the mess, and cared for his companions until he was able to return home. As a pet owner, this incident hit home--what if my animals were left alone for days? How could I ensure my friends would know where the cat's medicine is and what to feed him?

Our love for these family members and our realization that things do happen beyond our control led to the development of EPAS.
