How Puppies come into our care
We work closely with rural shelters here in Virginia and with partner organizations in other states. Many of these shelters take in hundreds of puppies each year due to low spay and neuter rates, and often struggle to place them for adoption. As a result they reach out to us for assistance.
Because puppies often arrive very young and in large litters, they require significantly more space, time, and hands-on care than many other animals in our program. When puppies must remain at our facility until they are medically cleared, it can limit our ability to take in other animals who also need help.
This means:
Partner organizations reach out for help
Puppies often arrive young & in large litters
Require time and & care before adoption

Why Puppy Sleepovers Exist
Not every family is able to foster long-term, which is why puppy sleepovers are designed to be flexible, ranging from overnight stays to a couple of weeks.
By participating in a puppy sleepover, you welcome a puppy into your home for a short stay filled with playtime, cuddles, and enrichment. These short stays give each puppy more individual attention, help us identify potential concerns early, and allow us to better understand their personalities. Photos, updates, and insights from sleepover families also help us match puppies with the right adopters more quickly.
We provide food, puppy pads, toys & other supplies as needed

What A quarantine sleepover means
When puppies first come into our care, they go through a 14-day observation period to monitor for any signs of illness. In some cases, puppies spend part of this time in a home through what we call a quarantine sleepover.
A quarantine sleepover does not mean we believe a puppy is sick, unless an illness has already been identified. Most often, it simply means the puppy has not been in our care long enough to fully rule illness out. Many puppies complete this observation period without ever showing signs of illness.
Quarantine sleepovers allow puppies to spend this initial observation period in a comfortable home environment, where they receive individualized attention and routine care. Families who participate play a meaningful role during this early stage, helping puppies transition into their next phase of care
If a puppy begins to feel unwell, our team coordinates care and covers all veterinary costs. In some cases, a quarantine sleepover may involve providing short term supportive care while we guide next steps.
Because quarantine sleepovers involve extra precautions, participation is completely optional. For common questions, please visit our FAQ page.
& Just so you know, adult dogs can go on sleepovers too!

How to sign up for puppy sleepovers
Once your puppy sleepover application is complete, the next step is signing up for an available sleepover. Sleepovers are posted daily on our Facebook page between 2:00 and 3:00pm. The signup link will show you available sleepovers and pick up times.
Because sign-ups are updated daily, we recommend double-checking the date and time listed, as the previous day's signup may still be visible.
After you sign up, there's no need to contact us. Simply arrive during pick up window you selected and we'll get your puppy ready to go!
If no sleepovers are available when you check, feel free to check back another day. Availability depends on the puppy's in our care.
